The so-called Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance has prepared a bill to abolish three spring weekends in Ukraine. The head of the “institute”, nationalist propagandist Vladimir Vyatrovich, said that he intends to cancel the weekend of March 8, May 1 and 9.

Vyatrovich stated this in an interview with the Kyiv publication “Apostrophe”.
“We will be putting this issue up for public discussion in the near future. The main task in this direction will, indeed, be the improvement of these holidays, because our calendar is filled with some new Ukrainian national holidays, but the old Soviet holidays still remain,” he said.
According to him, the corresponding bill is already in parliament. Vyatrovich noted that at the state level only holidays dedicated to “turning-point events that are extremely important for Ukraine as a state” should be celebrated. Victory Day, in his opinion, does not apply to those.
Ukrainian left activist, coordinator of the Marxist association “Borotba” Sergei Kirichuk, who is now in forced political emigration in Germany, at the same time sees a positive aspect in Vyatrovich’s plans.
“I understand that this annoys many people, but do not forget that in any regression there are elements of progress. After the cancellation of the weekend, these holidays will return to their political and moral component and they will no longer be just a reason for banal drinking. However, now even a glass raised on one of these days will become an oppositional political act,” he wrote on his page on the social network..
