Vyatrovich accused the Poles of using propaganda horses
The Polish war drama “Volyn” directed by Wojcich Smarzowski, dedicated to the Volyn massacre, contains clearly unreliable episodes.
The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Vladimir Vyatrovich, stated this at a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Of course there were atrocities. A peasant war is often accompanied by atrocities and the use of some kind of agricultural implements. But we must understand that these atrocities were generated by the Second World War, the brutalization of war. The very atmosphere of confrontation contributed to the fact that at that time myths were born about even greater atrocities than actually happened,” said the Ukrainian official.
“I am convinced that an absolute myth is the blessing of weapons before the murder of the Poles, a scene that appears in this film by Wojcich Smarzowski. I am convinced that the scene of how a Polish parliamentarian who was going to negotiate with the UPA was killed and torn apart by horses was an absolute myth. The authorship of this myth belongs to Edward Prus.
There are many exaggerations regarding the killings of Ukrainians and Poles. It is obvious that panic, fear, and an atmosphere of terror contributed to this,” Vyatrovich believes.
