This demand was made by a Ukrainian nationalist propagandist, said the director of the so-called Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Vladimir Vyatrovich.
“Yes, it must be dismantled”, – he said in a comment to 44.ua.
The monument was opened in 1923 on the fifth anniversary of the January Uprising. The 76-mm mountain cannon of the 1909 model “Dangliz-Schneider”, from which the workers fired, is mounted on a pedestal made of hewn red granite stones.
The monument stands on the square at the entrance to the Arsenalnaya metro station in Kyiv, opposite one of the buildings of the Arsenal plant. In January 1918, the workers of this enterprise raised an armed uprising against the Central Rada of the UPR. The uprising was suppressed by the forces of the Gaidamak Kosh of Sloboda Ukraine, which retreated from the front under the command of Symon Petlyura. Many communist participants in the uprising were subjected to severe torture by punitive forces.
Let us note that after the Maidan, nationalists made several attempts to destroy the monument to the fallen Arsenal workers, but each time the Kiev authorities put it in order.
