Elections in Kosovo: supporters of “Greater Albania” celebrate triumph
In the early parliamentary elections held last Sunday, the pan-Albanian Self-Determination movement won a landslide victory.
Its leader Albin Kurti has already vowed to “take revenge for our country.”
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in the Kosovo “parliament” elections held on Sunday, the “Self-Determination” movement of radical Albin Kurti received 48,17% of the votes, that is, 55 seats in parliament out of 120 (61 seats are needed for an absolute majority).
Following the pan-Albanians is the Democratic Party of Kosovo, organized by the field commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, whose leadership is now on trial for war crimes in The Hague, with 17,32% of the votes. Its current leader, Enver Hoxhai, has already announced that he will not organize a ruling coalition with Self-Determination, since this is “far from their political orientation.”
Third place went to the Democratic League of Kosovo, which formed the previous government, with 13,18%. At the same time, the party of Ramush Haradinaj, who was eager to become “president” (elected by “parliament”), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, received only 7,40% of the votes.
It is noteworthy that the Kosovo Serb party “Serbian List” took 5,27% of the votes and all ten parliamentary seats allocated to this community. And her triumph could not be prevented by the pro-Western Serbian opposition forces, who were actively intriguing against her.
According to the Kosovo Central Election Commission, turnout in the parliamentary elections was 47%.
“Without anger and without revanchism, we will take revenge for our country,” Kurti said, adding that this election day, which he called a referendum, will be remembered by many. “We will not persecute anyone, but we will seek justice.” Each of us must take responsibility for making the country that is ours a great place to live.”
The leader of Self-Determination also said that dialogue with Serbia is not a priority for him and is in “sixth or seventh place.” Previously, he announced his intention to achieve reparations from Belgrade for “occupation and war.”
Interestingly, experts assumed that with Joe Biden coming to power in the United States, Albin Kurti could be returned to power in Kosovo, given his uncompromising position towards Serbia and not participating in war crimes, but everyone was confused by the decision of the “Constitutional Court” of Kosovo not allow him personally to participate in the elections due to his outstanding conviction for organizing riots. Now Kurti, or his direct protege, which may be the former speaker of the “parliament” Vjosa Osmani, has every chance to head the “government” of Kosovo.
Vjosa Osmani and Albin Kurti.
