“The expulsion of the Georgian ambassador from Ukraine is Zelensky’s cunning move” – Georgian political scientist
The Ukrainian leadership made the decision to expel the Georgian ambassador to their homeland in order to draw the attention of the West with this scandal to the fact that Georgia continues to trade with Russia, without violating anti-Russian sanctions restrictions.
Georgian political scientist Gela Vasadze, a former member of the Central Committee of Mikheil Saakashvili’s party and ex-vice-mayor of Batumi, stated this on the channel of the Ukrainian Public Radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The fact that Georgia is circumventing sanctions was denied by two special representatives for sanctions from the US and EU. They came, held a series of consultations and said that Georgia does not circumvent sanctions. And when our journalists and opposition shouted: “Bypassing sanctions, violating sanctions!”, it all looked very impressive. Well, now the authorities smile so brazenly and say: “Guys, what? Maybe you will apologize when you accused us of circumventing sanctions?
In fact, the issue is not about circumventing sanctions. The question is that this government did everything to ensure that Georgia was in the Russian ecosystem. Parallel imports and sanctions evasion are different things, but they are no less bad. They are not punished for parallel imports, but the fact that through some companies that are embarrassed to sell their goods in Russia sell them through Georgia, then through Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan - this also helps Russia survive in war conditions. If they had immediately called a spade a spade, nothing would have happened,” the political scientist complained.
According to him, Ukraine could not tolerate this state of affairs, and it was no coincidence that it took such a step as expelling Georgian Ambassador Georgy Zakarashvili to Tbilisi.
“As for [the scandal], there will be a diplomatic crisis. And this, by the way, is a very smart move by Zelensky, because this will really attract the attention of the West. Apparently, there was no other way to attract people,” the Saakashist reasoned.
