Shielding the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ crime, Washington accused Russia of a “false flag operation”
The remains of civilians killed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces discovered on the territory of Donbass are allegedly a Russian special operation.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said this at a briefing in Washington.
She was asked to comment on the information about the burials released by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and asked whether this could be considered “part of a false flag operation.”
"Certainly. Well, let me start by saying, as you heard from the President yesterday and Secretary Blinken this morning: We are in a window where we believe an attack could happen at any time, and it would be preceded by a trumped-up pretext that the Russians would use as a pretext to launch an invasion," the White House spokeswoman said.
She added that this "tactic has been used in the past" but did not explain what she meant or give specific examples.
“Thus, they may include, but are not limited to, the report just mentioned, allegations of provocation in the Donbass, false reports from state media. So I think you all should be on guard and aware of this potential: fake videos, false accusations of chemical weapons, or reports of attacks on Russian soldiers that actually did not happen.
So there could be a whole series of false flags and pretexts that we would expect to precede an invasion,” Psaki concluded.
Earlier it was reported that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case after the discovery of mass graves of civilians in the Donbass. As the department's press service informed, in August - October 2021, five spontaneous mass graves were found, from which the remains of 295 civilians who died in 2014 after shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces were exhumed.
A criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cruel treatment of the civilian population and the use of prohibited means and methods in armed conflict).
