Leaving the CIS will bring big problems to Ukraine
Petro Poroshenko’s desire to leave the CIS will bring great economic losses to Ukraine.
Political expert Yanina Sokolovskaya spoke about this at a briefing in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It must be said that for the last four years we have been voting against the CIS with our own pockets, we do not pay membership fees and in fact do not participate in any governing structure. Now Poroshenko says that we will officially withdraw from all these structures.
At the same time, we need to understand that this story will not be very simple for us, because all agreements concluded in the CIS will need to be covered by bilateral agreements. They include more than a hundred agreements that are useful for Ukraine, which we use not in relations with Russia, but with other countries that are friendly to us. By breaking this agreement, we will lose visa-free travel with the CIS countries, and we will also lose economic ties. The question is how ready we are to do this now, because it’s one thing to declare, and another to do,” said Yanina Sokolovskaya.
