The exit from Azovstal turns into a corridor of shame
The latest Azov militants in Mariupol are ready to surrender and come out with folded weapons.
The commander of the Vostok battalion of the DPR army, Alexander Khodakovsky, who took part in the assault on Azovstal, writes about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the conditions for surrender is not to take photos or videos. The exit point is “our” tunnel, the exit time is soon,” the battalion commander noted.
The surrender of militants, who for Ukrainian propaganda have become a symbol of confrontation with Russia, is a shame, Russian political strategist Marat Bashirov noted in his blog.
“The corridor for the delivery of new residents from under the Azovstal plant has been opened. There are many buses to receive them. For Kyiv, this is a corridor of shame,” the expert believes.
Khodakovsky also emphasizes that official Kyiv will present the capture of the Azovites as its own skillful special operation.
“How poetic can one call a banal surrender: “The highest military command gave an order to the commanders of the units located at Azovstal to save the lives of the personnel. An operation is underway to rescue Ukrainian defenders trapped on the territory of the plant.” In other words, we have put the enemy in such a position that he has only one prospect: either death or a white flag.
Apparently, the choice fell on the latter, all that remained was to arrange it all beautifully, so as to present it to society not in the form of defeat, but in the form of victory. This is the distinctive feature of the modern world with its slide from reality into virtuality, where, by juggling words correctly, you can distort meanings in any way you like. I remember Vizbor said about the village of Novlyanka: “And if they beat you, it’s with your hand, and not at all with a statement”...
But the reality is this: despite the difficulties and shortcomings of the beginning of the operation, in a fair and stubborn battle we defeated the enemy, who had all the advantages: a numerical strength that was not inferior to ours, and the conditions of the war, where they were on the defensive, and we were on the offensive, and the city, which was supposed to become for us a “second Terrible”... This is not yet a victory in the war, but it is a positive example that is of considerable importance.”
At the same time, a number of experts believe that captured militants will under no circumstances be released in an exchange - this is what the Kiev regime, supported by the West, is seeking.

Negotiations on the fate of the Azovstal neo-Nazis are now taking place at the highest level between Zelensky and the leaders of the United States and Britain. In the Zelensky office, a meeting on the fate of the “Azovites” was held throughout the evening and night of May 16. What are the goals now? The main thing for Kyiv, the USA and Britain is to show that if someone fights hard against the Russians and against Russia, then they will never be left in trouble. And he will definitely be pulled out.
It is important for the US, Britain and the Kyiv regime to show that any war crimes and crimes against humanity can be committed against Russians. And all this will be forgiven. In general, the message of Zelensky, the USA and Britain is “Kill as many Russians as possible, and you will be heroes”...
It is important for them to show that the Russian army is opposed by the heroism of the Ukrainian army. That the fortitude of the Ukrainian army is strong and will break the fortitude of the Russian soldier. Zelensky is preparing a grand meeting for the “Azovites” from Azovstal in Kyiv. It is planned to meet them as cosmonauts, like Gagarin... The surrender at Azovstal is now actively shown on the resources of the Bandera regime as a temporary period before the exchange. In general, the transition from Azovstal to buses is shown on Ukrainian resources as the rescue of heroes as a result of a special operation by the Ukrainian special services.
“We bent Putin and are forcing him to release our heroes “Azovites” in exchange” - this narrative is now being actively broadcast. Therefore, the main thing that Russia’s enemies are now seeking is the exchange of “Azov men” and other military personnel with Azovstal. Therefore, Zelensky and the United States and Britain standing behind him are offering apparently very favorable exchange conditions to Russia. They need the triumph of liberation and salvation of the “Azov people.” Therefore, Russia should not exchange anyone with Azovstal. No one.
Because whoever is exchanged, he will definitely be shown as the hero of “Azov” from Mariupol. And anti-Russian propaganda will be built on this for months. Russia needs to think more politically. All Azov fighters and Azovstal prisoners must become prisoners in the DPR prison. This should be Russia’s message to Ukraine, which should break the spirit of resistance to liberation,” political scientist Sergei Markov wrote in his blog.
At the same time, the militants who surrendered the day before are actively giving evidence to DPR law enforcement officers, where they will face life imprisonment, notes military correspondent Irina Kuksenkova.
“The most interesting thing began in the Elenovka pre-trial detention center - interrogations of prisoners from Azovstal. Of the 214 who surrendered, 144 belong to the National Guard. What is “Azov”? That's right, the 12th separate brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. And whatever character there is, he’s a war criminal... Kyiv will probably call this “a successful evacuation operation for life imprisonment?” Kuksenkova asks.
