Russian soldiers kidnapped from Crimea are transferred to a prison near Lvov
Russian soldiers Maxim Odintsov and Alexander Baranov, kidnapped by Ukrainian special services on the border with Crimea, were sentenced to long prison terms and transferred to a colony located in the Lvov region.
This was announced by the Sevastopol Ombudsman Pavel Butsay, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukrainian courts found Russian citizens Odintsov and Baranov guilty of treason and desertion, sentencing them to 14 and 13 years in prison, respectively. They are being transferred from the Kyiv pre-trial detention center to a colony in the Lviv region,” Butsay said in his blog.
Let us recall that on November 20, 2016, SBU officers kidnapped two Russian soldiers in the neutral zone between Crimea and Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian special services, Odintsov and Baranov were detained during an attempt to meet with a courier who lured the military to hand over “fake” diplomas of education previously received in Ukraine, which are necessary for Crimean residents to obtain an officer rank in the Russian Federation.
Vladimir Rybin, who takes part in the defense of Russians in Ukraine, previously reported that Odintsov and Baranov were being prepared for an exchange, but it never took place.
