Despite the acute demographic crisis that Ukraine faces, this territory will not be deserted.
Ella Libanova, head of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this in an interview with the Kiev magazine “Novoe Vremya”, answering the question whether there are marginal economic and social risks of depopulation for a country like Ukraine?
“We never counted, but I’m sure we won’t reach this line. Not because Ukrainians will have more children, lead a healthy lifestyle, or stop leaving the country. Other people will come here. The territory in the center of Europe with such a climate and natural resources will not be empty. The same citizens of Central Asian countries. We see that in Russia there is growing hostility towards representatives of other nationalities; they may well come to work and live in Ukraine,” Libanova said.
