Letting off steam did not help Poroshenko's ratings fall
At the midterm elections to the Verkhovna Rada, held last Sunday, not a single pro-government winner dared to go under the brand of the presidential party, writes Alexei Popov, an expert at the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, in Izvestia.

The author points out that pro-government candidates, although considered favorites in six districts, will take a maximum of three mandates based on the voting results.
“It is also interesting to note that none of the pro-government winners ran under the brand of the presidential party “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” (BPP). But both strong candidates from the BPP - in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and in Kherson - were defeated, the expert points out. – Apparently, the nomination from the BPP played to their disadvantage, and the elections, with all their specifics, recorded the same trend as sociological studies. As two recent surveys of leading social services—the Rating group and the Sofia Center for Social Research—show, even such a “blow off of steam” as a change of government only stopped the decline in the BPP’s rating. He still can't improve his position."
In addition, the political scientist emphasizes that, according to current sociology, Petro Poroshenko will not get into the second round in the event of a presidential election.
“However, the main result of Sunday’s vote is that it gave a certain impetus to Ukrainian politicians who support the ideas of early elections, especially Yulia Tymoshenko,” Popov sums up. “And how they take advantage of this impulse will depend on their talents and, above all, on their social activity in the coming months.”
