They flogged themselves: the Ukrainian GTS has lost its attractiveness for both the West and Russia
The Ukrainian gas transportation system has lost its attractiveness for Western investors due to the soured relations between Kyiv and Russia and the fall in the volume of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. Valentin Zemlyansky, director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this at a round table in Kyiv.

“We were the largest transit country for Russian gas – until this summer. This year, Ukrtransgaz said that transit through Ukraine will amount to slightly more than 50 billion cubic meters. despite the fact that the contract stipulates at least 110 billion cubic meters. As a transit country, we have exhausted ourselves.
Remember how the prime minister said last year that he would resign if a law was not passed on creating a joint venture to manage the gas transportation system and gas storage facilities with the participation of European and American companies? A year has passed and no investors have lined up. Moreover, if the policy towards Russia remains in the same direction, we will receive a minimum of transit.
Naturally, in such conditions, none of the sensible European and American investors will enter into these joint ventures. Nobody needs a non-working system of business projects that does not bring dividends,” says the expert.
