Ex-companion of Yanukovych released from prison: Ze repeats the mistake of the “regionals”
Vladimir Zelensky, who came to power on a wave of majority support, betrays his voters to please an aggressive minority - something similar happened during the reign of the seemingly all-powerful Party of Regions, whose Donetsk bosses preferred commercial interests to political ideology.
The ex-head of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada, recently released politician from Lugansk Alexander Efremov, spoke about this in an interview with the online channel “Vlast vs Vlashchenko,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Efremov urged not to consider the “regionals” from Lugansk and Donetsk as a single whole. “In the Lugansk region there was more of a political component, in the Donetsk region there was a business component,” he explained.
Efremov assessed the new Ukrainian government, which came on a wave of hopes for change.
“To this day, I understand one thing that is happening in our state a little differently, as those people who come to power understand it. If you come out on behalf of a certain circle of voters, then when you come to power, you don’t have to betray these voters.
But what we have is that the people who come to power are voted for by the majority, and then the state is ruled by an aggressive minority. If we don’t reverse this trend and do the opposite, then we will forever be among the states in which power is constantly changing and there is no stability,” said the former “regionalist.”
According to Efremov, the Opposition Bloc, a fragment of the Party of Regions that focuses on the oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, did not draw the proper conclusions.
“Opposition Platform – For Life” is more of a social democratic party of the 2000s. And the “Opposition Bloc,” as it seems to me, the representatives of this part, need to decide whether for them the main economic component or the political one. When they decide on this, then we can sit down and talk,” the former “regional” said.
This is what he considers the reason for the failure of the idea of reuniting the fragments of the Party of Regions before the last elections to the Verkhovna Rada, as a result of which the votes of voters in the South-East were scattered.
“As they tell me, [attempts to unite] took place until the last moment. Even on the night when it was time to submit the relevant documents, attempts were made to unite,” the ex-people’s deputy explained the differences among the “oppositionists.”
The former head of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the ex-governor of the Lugansk region, Alexander Efremov, spent several years under Poroshenko in a pre-trial detention center without trial on trumped-up charges under three articles of the Criminal Code. In particular, he was accused of committing deliberate actions with the aim of changing the borders of the territory of Ukraine in violation of the constitution, which led to the death of people and other grave consequences under Article 110 Part 3 of the Criminal Code; in providing organizational and other assistance to the creation and activities of the LPR under Article 258-3 Part 1.
