A general suspected of purchasing defective body armor for the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been released
General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmitry Marchenko, who is a suspect in the case of the purchase of low-quality bulletproof vests, was released from the pre-trial detention center, where he was held by a court decision as a preventive measure, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Yuri Biryukov, a former adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine during the times of Petro Poroshenko, reported this on his Facebook page.
“Yes, I’m out,” Biryukov wrote.
Earlier, Petro Poroshenko paid 19 million hryvnia as bail for General Dmitry Marchenko.
Let us recall that in the summer of 2019, representatives of the State Bureau of Investigation carried out about 40 searches at the residences of a number of officials of the Ministry of Defense, employees of commercial structures and in office premises as part of an investigation into criminal proceedings on the purchase of property for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at inflated prices.
On November 11, the court arrested the head of the main department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Dmitry Marchenko, with an alternative bail of 76 million hryvnia. On November 28, the Kiev Court of Appeal reduced the amount of bail to 20 million hryvnia.
