The editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, who was previously detained in Kyiv on suspicion of treason, announced his renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship and asked for help from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The journalist said this during the court hearing in his case, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to Hromadske TV.

Vyshinsky also noted that he is personally acquainted with Poroshenko.

“I appeal to President Poroshenko, whom I know personally and with whom we have done several good deeds. I declare my renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship, and from this moment I consider myself only a citizen of the Russian Federation. I appeal to President Putin with a request to provide me with legal protection and take measures for my release,” Vyshinsky said.
