Vyshinsky again lost his appeal in Ukraine
The Kherson Court of Appeal remanded the head of RIA Novosti Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, suspected of high treason, in custody until December 28, 2018 inclusive, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This decision was made by a panel of judges at a meeting on December 11, leaving the corresponding decision of the Kherson City Court of October 31 unchanged.
“As far as the defense knows, the pre-trial investigation body plans to extend the pre-trial investigation period for another two months. And then, I think, we will move on to considering the case on its merits,” one of Vyshinsky’s lawyers, Igor Mokin, commented on the court’s decision to the publication.
Ukrainian law enforcement officers detained Vyshinsky in Kyiv on May 15, 2018. He was declared suspected of criminal proceedings opened under Part 1 of Article 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
On May 17, the Kherson City Court chose a preventive measure for Vyshinsky in the form of arrest until July 13. On July 6, the press secretary of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Larisa Sargan reported that Vyshinsky was notified of another suspicion of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
The Kherson court has already extended Vyshinsky’s detention period several times, and the appeal court has confirmed these decisions.
