Kiev economic expert Andrey Golovachev writes about this in his blog.

“All experts note that the overall level of education of young people compared to their peers 30 years ago has fallen catastrophically. For the most part, young people no longer know anything about physics, chemistry, history, biology, geography, mathematics, etc. Many people get confused even in the multiplication tables. Without a doubt, this trend is objective in nature and reflects the change in the nature of work in today’s Ukraine compared to Soviet Ukraine,” notes Golovachev.

He draws attention to the fact that if in Soviet times a significant part of the population worked in production or in numerous research institutes and design bureaus, today they find employment in the service sector and trade, where intellectual effort is not required.

“Industrial Ukraine is over. Along with it, the high educational level of the entire population ended. It was replaced by trade and service Ukraine with its primitive level of education. And the 12-year-old school for the new Ukraine, which Grinevich is so persistently pushing, is completely unnecessary. We don't need to copy the European education system. This is stupid imitation and senseless budget inflation, which Ukraine, as the poorest country in Europe, simply cannot afford.

We do not have such a high-tech economy as the EU. And it won’t be like this in the next 30-40 years. Or maybe it never will be. Science is dead and we will never innovate.

85-90% of young people in the next 10-15 years are doomed to sit in the markets, in trade or become migrant workers. Therefore, a 12-year-old is absurd. An ordinary 8-year-old will be enough. This is both practical and easy on the budget. And those parents who are serious about their children will still not get involved with the poor state Ukrainian education, which can only cripple, but is not able to provide any education,” summarizes Golovachev.
