We will not withdraw peacekeepers from Transnistria - senator
The victory in the parliamentary elections in Moldova of the pro-Western Action and Solidarity party, controlled by President Maia Sandu, is the result of a flaw in the coalition of communists and socialists led by former heads of state Vladimir Voronin and Igor Dodon.
Now Moldova faces a strengthening of its course towards the West and a possible worsening of relations with Russia and Transnistria.
Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, told PolitNavigator about this.
“Unfortunately, taking into account the election program of Maia Sandu’s party, the pro-Western forces won. Yes, this is a threat both to the relationship between Moldova and Russia, and to Transnistria - of course it is. But how this will develop further, how the winners will work, what decisions they will make - life will tell. It often happens that those political forces that run on slogans alone do not implement these slogans. But I can say that, apparently, the bloc of communists and socialists made mistakes in their pre-election work,” the senator said.
“As for our reaction and position on Transnistria - we are working with it, quite deeply, there is a limited contingent of our troops there - it is clear that we will not withdraw it,” Tsekov said.
Let us remind you that according to the Moldovan Central Election Commission, 95% of ballots are processed shows that the Action and Solidarity party gains 48%, the coalition of communists and socialists - 30% of the vote. The Shor party also enters parliament with 6,43%.
Thus, the right-wing pro-Europeans receive a sole parliamentary majority. Now this political force will be able to independently form government and will probably take absolute power in the Republic of Moldova.
