The explosion of the arsenal in Ichnya had been expected since last year
The vulnerabilities in the conditions of ammunition storage at the 6th arsenal in Ichnya, Chernihiv region were known a year ago, but the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine did not take any action to eliminate them.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, member of the parliamentary committee on national security and defense Dmitry Tymchuk stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the deputy, a commission from parliament visited the arsenal last year and, after inspecting the territory and facilities of the arsenal, communicating with representatives of the command, military personnel and employees, discovered a number of shortcomings that could not be eliminated by the arsenal workers, but required the intervention and assistance of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff .
“Unfortunately, I cannot publish the text of the appeal, as well as the answers, because these documents are classified as secret. I can only say that the identified shortcomings related to the arrangement of the technical territory of the arsenal, the conditions for storing ammunition, improving the security system, and carrying out a number of organizational measures. The answers from the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff were written “on tracing paper” and had a completely “calming” character: they say, we know everything, everything is being done,” wrote Tymchuk.
