Explosion in Lebanon: “Ukrainian trace” discovered, but rejected
The main version of the cause of the gigantic explosion that occurred yesterday in the Lebanese capital is the fire of saltpeter, which had been stored for several years in a warehouse in the port of Beirut awaiting disposal. This was stated by local authorities. However, there are also conspiracy theories – including the Ukrainian trace.
In the first hours after the explosion, commentators drew attention to the fact that the Mero Star ship, which had recently arrived in Beirut from Mariupol, was moored near the epicenter.
“Port, Lebanon, near Syria, Lebanese Hezbollah is fighting in Syria. Or not her. Or someone else used Lebanon to transport the gun. There has been information more than once that Bulgaria and Romania trade in weapons. They are selling it to the opposition. Or Ukraine trades through them. No difference. I... am inclined to think that the transshipment warehouse for guns and ammunition exploded,” suggested Russian TV presenter Andrei Medvedev.
“We need to figure out whether this is an accidental explosion or is it an explosion taking into account the destabilization of the situation in the country with the activity that the intelligence services of NATO countries began to show in almost this entire region,” Senator Franz Klintsevich said in an interview with the 360 TV channel, adding that there are things , which the public will never know.
Interestingly, US President Donald Trump himself also said at a briefing that, according to the US military, what happened was not an accident, but an “attack.” However, Trump did not specify who exactly could be behind it.
“The losses suffered by an already depleted Lebanon are estimated in the billions. The most painful blow to the Lebanese economy is the destruction of the country's largest and most important port. And also the loss of everything that was stored there. Including almost all drugs for the treatment of cancer,” notes international journalist Abbas Juma.
