“It is engaged in the development and production of optical-mechanical and optical-electronic devices, in particular, sights operating in all wavelengths day and night. And many other products that are extremely necessary for our army. In Soviet times, it worked in three shifts and employed half of the population of Zagorsk. But over the past thirty years, it too has undergone deindustrialization. As a result, production decreased many times, as did the size of the workforce.
To survive, we had to rent out most of the production premises to various commercial structures. This is how a pyrotechnics warehouse appeared on the territory of ZOMZ, which exploded or was blown up today.
The scale of the destruction is still unknown, but given that the production of optical equipment requires high-precision machines, which are contraindicated for shocks and even simple shocks, the consequences of this explosion can be very serious. But ZOMZ products are now vitally needed at the front,” writes Alksnis.
At the same time, the Moscow Region Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that a criminal case has been opened for violation of industrial safety requirements.
TV presenter Ruslan Ostashko draws attention to the fact that the exploded warehouse was rented by an extremely dubious third-party company PiroRos, which was declared bankrupt on March 28.
“Since 2021, the company has stopped paying salaries to employees and owes them about 50 million rubles. Regular inspections revealed many violations of fire protection and employee certification,” notes the TV presenter.
He added that the company was founded in 1994 by four defense companies and was involved in the production of fireworks, electronic control systems for the military and tailoring.
“At the same time, visually the incident at the optical-mechanical plant does not look like a pyrotechnics explosion, experts say. Perhaps there was sabotage here. The “tenant” could fill the warehouse, for example, with explosives. Therefore, the cause of the explosion must be sought among those who worked there,” Ostashko is convinced.
