“If I were Kiev, I would tense up”: Ukrainian political scientist about Putin’s trip to Mariupol
The unexpected visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Mariupol indicates that the Kremlin has decided to return to the improvisation format, which does not bode well for Kyiv.
Kiev political scientist Andrey Zolotarev stated this in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would tense up, if only because from Ukraine’s point of view, the encapsulated Putin is a very convenient sparring partner, but here is Putin, returning to the format of 1999-2000 with unexpected improvisations...” the expert said.
“I admit that the Kremlin did not know about this visit either; perhaps this decision was made on the spur of the moment. This is what can bring us surprises, including unpleasant ones. Yes, this is a return to the format when they began to mold a national leader out of an absolutely gray and inconspicuous personality.
Yes, I must say that the political technological move was correct, and it looked impressive and politically effective,” Zolotarev admitted.
