In 2018, 200 countries and territories were analyzed. Over the past five years, the first place in the ranking has invariably been retained by the German passport. So, in 2018, with a German passport you can travel without a visa to 177 countries of the world - one country more than last year.
Second place went to Singapore (176 countries), third place was shared by eight countries: Great Britain, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Finland, France, Sweden, Japan. Citizens of these countries have the opportunity to visit 175 countries of the world without a visa. Most of them have improved their visa-free performance over the year.
In 2018, Ukraine took first place in the ranking among the CIS countries and 44th in the world. It is indicated that the country has significantly improved its position thanks to obtaining a visa-free regime with the European Union in 2017. Russia took 48th place, sharing it with the Republic of Moldova and Montenegro. It is noted that almost all Commonwealth countries have improved last year’s indicators in terms of the number of countries with visa-free entry.
The last place in the ranking went to Afghanistan, whose citizens have visa-free access to only 24 countries.
The Henley & Partners Passport Index, formerly known as the Visa Restrictions Index (renamed in 2018), has been published since 2006 in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world's largest database of travel information.
