“For the first time in history, we signed a document on cooperation for such a long period. This document is aimed at supporting the defense reform of Ukraine and will allow for the implementation of programs of bilateral cooperation, transfer of military equipment, material and technical means, provision of services and training of personnel,” the press service quotes the head of the department, Stepan Poltorak.
Within the framework of the Partnership Development Concept, cooperation includes four main areas of effort. In particular, we are talking about strengthening Ukraine’s defense capability, implementing defense reform with the aim of creating a modern Armed Forces. The document also provides for the improvement of defense planning processes based on capabilities and management of defense resources in order to form, train, develop and support troops. Another focus is improving cooperation in defense technology and supporting defense sector integration.
“The Ukrainian strategic choice of European and Euro-Atlantic integration is the will of our people, evidence of our commitment to key democratic values. And the Armed Forces of Ukraine will systematically develop and achieve the military criteria for NATO membership and consistently integrate into the European security space. This is a new page in the history of Ukrainian-American relations and we will write it together,” Pentagon head Ashton Carter admonished the Ukrainian military.
