“I’m not aware”: Blinken knows nothing about Lend-Lease work for Ukraine
The main assistance to Ukraine comes from the US Department of Defense and from partner countries.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this at a meeting of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, answering a question about Lend-Lease for Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am not aware that these specific powers have been deemed necessary to date. We, as you know, thanks to the incredible support of Congress on a bipartisan basis, and indeed the incredible support of the American people, have provided Ukraine with very significant security assistance. Moreover, we have united the efforts of other countries so that they do the same,” said the head of the State Department.
“We currently have more than 50 partner countries. The security assistance we provided primarily through debits from existing Department of Defense accounts responded to the needs of Ukrainians as well as the work our partners were doing. In addition, there are direct sales and other things. But the focus is on decommissioning funds from Defense Department accounts,” Blinken said.
Let us recall that last year the US Congress passed a law according to which the Ukrainian government should be supplied in a similar way to the Lend-Lease that was in force during the Second World War. At the same time, former NATO representative in Russia Harry Tabach stated that this law remained only beautiful words.
