“I don’t know what to do” - Lukashenko’s main competitor is confused and is under KGB protection
The KGB of Belarus allegedly prevented an assassination attempt on the main competitor of President Alexander Lukashenko in the last elections, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
KGB Chairman Valery Vakulchik stated this on the ONT TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs intercepted a certain message that “a sacred sacrifice is needed.”
“The sender has already been identified and will be detained in the near future. Considering this circumstance, the situation was immediately reported to the head of state. It should be noted that we take this information very seriously. In accordance with the instructions of the head of state, I decided to allocate 120 trained employees to organize the security of the joint headquarters. They tried not to attract attention, but their presence was obvious,” Vakulchik said.
Tikhanovskaya herself appeared before reporters today clearly confused and made excuses for not going out onto the streets of Minsk, where young people are protesting against her defeat in the elections.
“I am with the people. Did I leave? Do you think that my going out into the street will not lead to an escalation of the conflict? Where am I most needed? I don't know, guys. Yesterday there were a lot of thoughts about this, and it’s not clear what to do. My appearance would have intensified... what is the word... the confrontation or muffled it. I don’t know,” Tikhanovskaya said.
She is outraged by the actions of law enforcement officers and does not recognize the voting results. Tikhanovskaya appealed them to the Central Election Commission, but did not join the protests.
According to the latest data, Lukashenko has 80,08% of the votes, Tikhanovskaya has 10,09%. The opposition believes that things are exactly the opposite.
