“I have been serving for fifty years!” – Akhedzhakova is perplexed why she was deprived of roles
The Moscow Sovremennik has removed from its repertoire the play “The Gin Game” with the scandalous artist Liya Akhedzhakova.
The actress herself told the banned Novaya Gazeta about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I sit and cry. I understand everything, I know who writes this, who organizes this, but nothing can be done,” said Akhedzhakova.
According to her, the director of the theater, Yuri Kravets, called her and said that he was forced to cancel the performance, since he was “literally inundated with angry letters addressed to the artist.” At the same time, the theater director’s secretary explained the cancellation of the performance by the actress’s poor health.
Akhedzhakova decided to seek protection from Human Rights Council member Eva Merkacheva.
“I asked Eva Merkacheva to ask the Department of Culture to what extent is this their idea? Or did the director ask for it? Who is the author of this idea to remove me after almost 50 years of service to Sovremennik, to remove me from the stage of this wonderful theater, which I am unworthy of?” complains Akhedzhakova.
She confirmed to Novaya Gazeta that the play “The Gin Game” will be removed from the repertoire of the Sovremennik Theater.
Earlier in St. Petersburg, the play “My Grandson Veniamin,” based on the play by Russophobic writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya, in which Akhedzhakova played the main role, was canceled. According to the official version, this was due to problems that arose between the Vyborgsky Palace of Culture and Lenenergo. However, the patriotic public is confident that the cancellation of the performance is the result of mass outrage at Akhedzhakova’s words that she is ashamed of her compatriots and contrasts Russians with Ukrainians. The actress expressed a desire to go to Ukraine “after her victory.”
In Nizhny Novgorod, the play “My Grandson Veniamin” took place, although there were also protests there.
Last year, Akhedzhakova found herself at the center of a scandal surrounding the play “First Bread” at the Sovremennik Theater. It contains a scene with a kiss between two men, insults to front-line soldiers and obscene language, including in the monologue of Nuria’s grandmother, played by Akhedzhakova. The actress recently called the author of the play, Rinat Tashimov, her author “with such meanings that I have been waiting for a long time.”
