Yatsenyuk urgently introduced a law on the transfer of the Ukrainian gas transportation system to Western control
Kyiv, June 19 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk tried to urgently push through the adoption of a law in the Verkhovna Rada that would transfer the Ukrainian gas transportation system to the control of US and European Union companies.

Yatsenyuk explained that the GTS itself will remain state property, but an operating company will be created, in which companies from the EU and the USA will receive 49% of the shares.
According to Yatsenyuk, such a step will change the West’s position regarding the construction of South Stream and disrupt Russia’s plans. “The EU member states will be interested in stopping the construction of South Stream and sending all volumes through the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” the official assured.
However, Yatsenyuk’s initiative was initially lukewarmly supported by the audience. It took two attempts for deputies to include the bill on the agenda.
Yatsenyuk had to convince the people's deputies.
“It is difficult to attract European companies to invest if such a project is not even on the agenda... If this law is not adopted, there will be fireworks in the Kremlin! The Ukrainian gas transportation system is designed to pump 140 billion cubic meters per year; before we pumped 122 billion, now it’s 80. If South Stream is built, then there will be only 40-50 billion,” the prime minister warned.
As a result, on the second attempt, the deputies included the bill on the agenda. Yatsenyuk proposed to approve it immediately. However, this encountered resistance from people's deputies, who agreed to adoption only in the first reading.
“Svobodovets” Alexander Mirny expressed bewilderment why Yatsenyuk’s law on hydraulic structures was “immediately submitted to the committee.”
“The explanatory note states that the project does not require public consultation. Well, how can you do this?” – supported deputy Oleg Zarubinsky.
Non-factional Inna Bogoslovskaya said that the haste is explained by the desire of “Batkivshchyna” to receive carte blanche for uncontrolled leadership over the industry.
“This is crazy! BYuT will lead the entire fuel and energy complex without any control! Only full consideration of the bill, through the committee! Otherwise, it’s a black cat in a poke,” Bogoslovskaya shouted.
Thank you!
