As a result of the ATO, more than 60% of Ukrainian mines ended up in territory uncontrolled by Kiev. Thus, in reality, Kyiv currently controls the work of no more than 60 state mines, some of which are idle, and some were destroyed as a result of the fighting in the Donbass. As you know, the Cabinet of Ministers also refused to restore most of the shutdown mines.
According to the program, by 2020 the Cabinet of Ministers also intends to privatize 37 coal mines and mothball another 24.
The government of Mykola Azarov for a long time did not dare to privatize the state coal industry, the reason for which was not only the corruption component in the development of billions of state subsidies, but also serious social consequences in the mining regions.
The Yatsenyuk government is devoid of such sentiments: it has identified the purchase of coal on the world market as one of its priorities.
