Kyiv, August 13 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk wants the new head of the UOC-MP, whose elections will be held today in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, to side with the fighters “against the occupiers” and “external aggression.”
This is stated in Yatsenyuk’s message to the Council of Bishops of the UOC, which will elect a new Metropolitan of Kyiv.

“Your Council takes place at a time when the Ukrainian people stood up to defend their Fatherland from external aggression and terrorist attacks, when every day for our future the best sons and daughters of Ukraine die on the battlefield... The public expects sacrifice and moral perfection from its church leaders, patriotism, balanced but decisive actions for the sake of the unity of society, the liberation of our lands from the occupiers and the return of Ukrainians to peaceful creative work.
You, the bishops who have gathered in Kiev from all over Ukraine, are entrusted with a special mission - the election of a new Metropolitan of Kiev, who will continue the work of those Kiev metropolitans who dreamed of seeing our country independent and prosperous, and its Orthodox Church united and worthily represented in the Ecumenical Orthodoxy,” wrote Yatsenyuk.
