The federal government corrects Yatsenyuk and tactfully states that “most likely there was a misunderstanding between the prime minister and his subordinates,” they report German economic news.
Reuters reports that there was a fire in the non-nuclear part of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant several days ago.
At the same time, in accordance with publications in the world media, including Reuters, with reference to Yatsenyuk, in the South-East of Ukraine there was an accident at a nuclear power plant “with still unpredictable consequences”. Yatsenyuk, according to Reuters, instructed Energy Minister Vladimir Demchishin to convene an emergency press conference on this matter.
At the same time, DPA reported that Demchishin stated that there was allegedly “a technical defect at the station,” it was reported about the shutdown of the third block on November 28.
Zaporozhye is considered the most powerful nuclear power plant in Europe and is located approximately 570 kilometers southeast of the capital of Ukraine. The nuclear power plant was put into operation in 1984. About 50 percent of Ukraine's electricity is produced by operating nuclear reactors. Dependence on nuclear energy has increased this winter as supplies of Russian gas and Donetsk coal have been cut off.
