“The Ukrainian government has decided to switch to a “legal situation,” the publication writes. – Until now, the phrase about the comprador nature of the current Ukrainian government sounded only like an insult. Local politicians loved to throw this word at each other during the election period. And now it turns out that this is not just a figurative expression, but a statement of fact. On Monday evening, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk openly stated at a meeting with European Commissioner for Foreign Policy Federica Mogherini: “We ask that the EU create a fund to pay salaries to Ukrainian officials. Without this, it is impossible to fight corruption.”

The Ukrainian Prime Minister has already addressed the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker with the same request, the newspaper indicates.

“The very formulation of the question is pleasing: if Europe wants officials in Ukraine not to steal, pay,” MK ironically says. – But the logic is not clear: if a bureaucrat came up with corruption schemes for the money of Ukrainian taxpayers, then why should he give up such a profitable “welding” when he switches to salaries from European taxpayers? Or will European money itself give such a “morally cleansing effect” that Ukrainian officials will immediately feel ashamed of taking bribes?”

“The question of whether the government of an independent state can receive salaries from European structures for Yatsenyuk, apparently, is not worth it at all,” the publication adds. – By the way, the current governor of the Odessa region, Mikheil Saakashvili, can be considered the initiator of maintaining officials at someone else’s expense.
