Yatsenyuk urged to prepare for winter without light and heat
The Ukrainian government does not rule out a worst-case scenario during the heating season, when in frosty conditions the warehouses will run out of coal and there will not be enough money to purchase gas.
Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated this during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada.

“We lost 65% of all our mines. You know very well that it is in uncontrolled territories that there are mines that produce the required grades of coal. And that is why there is an incredible shortage of coal. And the deliberate actions of the Russian Federation to stop coal supplies also affect our energy balance,” the official said.
“If we don’t have coal, and if this coal is not enough for heating, we turn on gas and oil units. If we turn them on, this is additional gas consumption,” Yatsenyuk outlined the situation.
He said the government is preparing for the worst-case scenario.
“The government’s basic scenario is a cold winter and difficulties with coal supplies and the launch of units,” Yatsenyuk said.
