About this in an interview with the German publication Die Welt said ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, answering the question whether he fears that Trump’s victory will give a huge boost to pro-Russian forces in the EU and will lead to increased demands to lift sanctions and give in to Putin.
“Undoubtedly, populists and demagogues will try to put pressure on European governments to achieve such a result,” Yatsenyuk believes. “Russia plays this card by funding radical forces in Europe and spreading disinformation through media outlets like Russia Today. But we see that what is at stake here are fundamental principles and values. If anyone in the West thinks that it is possible to reach an agreement with Russia at the expense of Ukraine, he is making a big mistake. As a result, Europe and the United States themselves will have to pay a high price for this.”
