“No government in the previous 23 years has done what the current one has done,” he said. He emphasized that despite the unpopular decisions, the work of the current government has improved the image of Ukraine.
“If you want to have a popularity rating in the future, then you need to make popular decisions. If you want to have an approval rating for your country you must make bold and often unpopular decisions. And this government has already made such decisions in the energy sector, housing and communal services and other sectors,” he said, comparing the reforms being carried out in Ukraine with Kwasniewski’s reforms in Poland.
“It’s normal for people to raise utility rates six times. This is fine. People expect results as quickly as possible,” he said.
“We sought to mitigate the consequences of the reforms. By raising tariffs, we launched a subsidy program. Every household in which more than 10% of their income goes to pay for housing and communal services receives assistance from the government,” he emphasized, adding that the government also decided to raise salaries and pensions.
