The leader of the Popular Front party, ex-Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said this in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
He noted that sometimes the head of the Ukrainian state “behaves like a tank”: he simply moves forward. Yatsenyuk added that in this case one must always keep in mind that there are also anti-tank missiles.
According to the politician, his premiership under Poroshenko was an “extremely complex and difficult coexistence,” but lasted longer and was more productive than the cooperation between Ukraine’s third president, Viktor Yushchenko, and then-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, which “completely undermined” the country’s reputation. Yatsenyuk noted that he could not allow this to happen again.
The politician also commented on Ukraine’s future relations with the new US administration. According to him, it would be reasonable for Poroshenko to act cautiously in relation to Republican Donald Trump, who won the US elections, to explain to him the essence of his position regarding Russian interference and offer options for cooperation. The politician noted that the new head of the United States will understand the limits of cooperation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yatsenyuk added that Russia and the United States “were, are and will be opponents.”
