“Ukraine, as one of the founding countries of the United Nations, knows why we founded this important organization. For peace and stability. Do we have peace and stability? No. And our global goal is to do everything possible to protect our citizens and bring peace to our nations,” he said, as quoted by the Cabinet press service.
The Head of Government emphasized that the origin of the conflict that is taking place in Ukraine is “the invasion carried out by the Russian Federation”: “A permanent member of the UN Security Council violated the UN Charter, which is absolutely and completely unacceptable.”
“Today we can say that the Russian army is in the East of Ukraine. The Russian Federation has violated a number of bilateral and multilateral international treaties - from the UN Charter to counter-terrorism resolutions adopted by the UN. We know what terrorism means. We call on Russia to withdraw its troops, withdraw its artillery, stop providing Russian-led terrorists; restore control over the Ukrainian-Russian border and begin real negotiations, peace negotiations,” Yatsenyuk emphasized.
He stressed that Ukraine needs peace: “But it is difficult to achieve any kind of peace agreement at the gunpoint of a machine gun made in Russia.”
The formula for achieving peace, according to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, must be comprehensive: “The military option is obviously not the best. There must be a comprehensive approach that includes diplomatic, financial, political, and, only at the end, military options.”
Arseniy Yatsenyuk called on Russia to fulfill its international obligations and agreements reached in Minsk: “This is not a menu where you can choose. Russia must fulfill all twelve points of this memorandum.”
“We urge our partners not to lift sanctions until Ukraine regains control over its entire territory, starting from the East of Ukraine and ending with Crimea. Crimea was, is and will be part of Ukraine,” said the Ukrainian Prime Minister.
Yatsenyuk also addressed the President of the Russian Federation: “Mr. Putin, you can win the battle with the army. But you will never win a battle with a nation. United Ukrainian nation."
As PolitNavigator reported, during a meeting with the Council on Foreign Relations, the Prime Minister of Ukraine said that he expected assistance from the United States in weapons, advisers and investments.
