Yatsenyuk first used the term “Great Patriotic War”
For the first time in a long time, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk used the term “Great Patriotic War” in relation to the participants in those events.
This happened, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, during a meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and celebration of the “70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in Europe and the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.”
It is noteworthy that in the first part of his speech, the prime minister spoke exclusively about the Second World War.
“We are a victorious state, we fought against Nazism and must adequately celebrate these events and honor every veteran of the Second World War, everyone who fought during the Great Patriotic War,” said Arseniy Yatsenyuk. – And the task of the Ukrainian state is to honor every person and demonstrate the historical justice of what happened 70 years ago, and to prevent a repetition of such tragic and terrible events that happened in the last century. Unfortunately, such events are now taking place in the territories of Ukraine. Ukrainian military personnel and civilians are dying precisely because of Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
It is difficult to say whether the use of such a term was accidental or intentional, but after the speech of the head of the Ukrainian government, media representatives were asked to leave the hall, depriving them of the opportunity to learn the details of the preparations for the celebration.
As PolitNavigator has already reported, the Ukrainian parliament recently adopted a number of laws that prohibited Soviet communist symbols and abolished the concept of the Great Patriotic War.
In the transitional provisions of the law on perpetuating the victory over Nazism, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada at the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers, the previously in force law “On perpetuating the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” is recognized as no longer in force.
At the same time 78 percent of Ukrainian citizens, as social research data show, consider May 9 to be Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.
