Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways OJSC, stated this while answering a question from Crimean Senator Sergei Tsekov about the fate of the Kerch crossing and the construction of the bridge within the framework of the “Open Dialogue”.
“We have never had problems with moving wagons to the other side. They arose after, under the influence of appropriate propaganda, a huge number of passengers rushed to Crimea in their own cars. And here, of course, collapse occurred, because the ferry crossing is not intended for this,” Tsekov’s press service quotes the head of Russian Railways.
Yakunin spoke about attempts to introduce a direct train from Moscow to Simferopol, which ended in failure due to many kilometers of traffic jams at the crossing. Answering the question: “Can this problem be solved?”, the head of Russian Railways replied that if there is the appropriate desire and funding, this problem can be solved. However, there is no such funding today.
“Therefore, we will interrupt passenger traffic on our side, and then it will continue on the other side,” said Vladimir Yakunin, proposing also to use the option of mixed traffic, which worked this year when citizens come to the ports of the Krasnodar Territory, and from there They are transported by high-speed ships to Crimea.
“In general, the situation is such that until we build the bridge, we will have to endure inconvenience and solve problems,” stated the head of Russian Railways.
