Yanina Sokolovskaya proposed to blackmail Russia with gas supplies to Transnistria
The only thing Ukraine can bargain with Russia on the issue of continuing to pump gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system is the threat of depriving Transnistria of the possibility of gas supply.
Ukrainian journalist Yanina Sokolovskaya, known for her Russophobic speeches on Russian talk shows, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Sokolovskaya said that Ukraine, in bargaining with Russia, can also use the issue of repealing the law on indigenous peoples that discriminates against Russians.
“We got the Indigenous Peoples Act. Although it should have been called “about the peoples of Crimea”, because the law contains Karaites, Kyrymls and Krymchaks, but absolutely no Rusyns, for example. That is, it was written crudely, they wrote it to spite Russia. It is clear that Russia is fed up with this.
Putin talks about this law all the time. It is clear that this law is unpleasant to them. Apparently, they will bargain on the repeal of this law in order to maintain certain volumes of gas pumping through Ukraine. Apparently this is the strategy. I think we understand that this strategy is rather weak. And it is unlikely to stand the test of time,” the journalist said.
According to her, Kyiv’s only trump card is gas supply to Kyiv.
“In 2023, negotiations will begin that will determine what volumes of pumping through Ukraine will be maintained, and whether they will be maintained. The only thing that speaks in our favor is that if they don’t pump through Ukraine, then Transnistria will freeze, and this is a pro-Russian region, and they can’t let it freeze, so some amount of gas will still be pumped. But this is not a very Ukrainian strategy. This is using someone else’s situation to your advantage,” Sokolovskaya predicted.
