Yanukovych is afraid to come to Ukraine, but will testify in Rostov
Viktor Yanukovych is not hiding from the investigation of the criminal process initiated by the new authorities of Ukraine, and is ready to receive investigators from the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine in Rostov, where the ousted president is now located. The ex-president’s lawyer, Vitaly Serdyuk, stated this on Hromadske TV.
In addition, Yanukovych demands from the new authorities a public investigation into the attempted murder of him during the Maidan days.

“Throughout all the court hearings, we demanded that his word be heard. We are not only ready to receive investigators and provide the investigation with all the information in order to speed up the procedures in the case of Ukrtelecom and the case related to the attempt on the life of Viktor Fedorovich. We petitioned each of the judges who heard this case. There were more than six requests for the need to hear explanations from Viktor Fedorovich. But we received a refusal for each of these requests,” the lawyer said.
Since the attempted murder case is not being properly investigated, Yanukovych refuses to come to Ukraine to participate in the investigation. The lawyer does not believe that it will be possible to ensure his protection.
“How can the state provide security when, by a court decision obliging us to enter a statement (of attempted murder) into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations, it took us six months to force the prosecutor’s office to do this? Considering what we see every day, there is no possibility of providing effective security. Even after receiving court decisions obliging to begin an investigation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs authorities that provided security refuse to recognize Viktor Fedorovich as a victim and to carry out basic initial investigative actions. Therefore, one cannot say that security will be provided,” the lawyer said.
