“Yanukovych deprived Ukraine of the opportunity to bomb the Kremlin” – press officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
During the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych in 2011, Ukraine abandoned the Soviet Scud ballistic missile, which could easily reach the decision-making center in Russia.
Press officer of the 112th territorial defense brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Andrey Kovalev stated this on air on the ATR TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Great Britain and the USA signed the Budapest Memorandum; they are security guarantors for Ukraine. The same as the Russian Federation. They signed a document requiring Ukraine to renounce nuclear weapons and exchange nuclear weapons for security guarantees.
Russia has violated these security guarantees. Now for the USA and Great Britain, which are signatories of the Budapest Memorandum, this is a direct obligation to support Ukraine. Because now there are risks for Ukrainian security. They are now obliged to give us weapons,” Kovalev believes.
He added that Kyiv handed over its bombers to Russia, which are now bombing Ukraine from the territory of Belarus and Russia.
“During the time of Yanukovych, both the United States and the Russian Federation forced Ukraine to abandon many types of missile weapons, namely the missiles called Scud. Ukraine abandoned them. During Yanukovych's time, these missiles were transferred to the Russian Federation. Ukraine was disarmed, a huge part of its own weapons.
For example, the strategic bombers that are now bombing Ukraine from the airspace of Belarus and Russia, these bombers were transferred by Ukraine to Russia, in fact, as a gift.
In 2011, 11 years ago, Ukraine abandoned Scud missiles, which could now effectively reach the decision-making centers of the terrorist country of the Russian Federation,” complained the VSUushnik.
