Yanukovych surprised at the trial by declaring that he had never been charged with a crime
Former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych today, during a video interrogation in the Svyatoshinsky Court of Kyiv, said that he had never been brought to criminal responsibility before.
Kiev journalist Anton Rosenvain points out that Yanukovych spoke specifically about the absence of problems with the law in the past, and not about expunged convictions.

“When asked by the court, Yanukovych replied that he was not brought to criminal liability. “We don’t “have no convictions” (allegedly, Yanukovych’s convictions were canceled - Leshchenko published materials about the revision of the case. And in general, after the expiration of a criminal record, a person is automatically considered not to have a conviction), but he was not involved at all,” Rosenwein noted an interesting detail.
“If Yanukovych lied, a case of perjury should be opened. The absence of such confirms Yanukovych’s answer,” the journalist added.
His colleague Alexander Chalenko believes that Yanukovych was, after all, lying, since he had previously admitted to journalists that he was in prison.
“When we went to his dacha, he told us about his first trip. Like, his future wife was waiting for him... We later wrote about it,” recalls Chalenko.
