Yanukovych announced early presidential elections, Lebedev disavows the dispersal of the Maidan
Kyiv, February 21 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Viktor Yanukovych, as expected, issued a statement in which he agreed to hold early presidential elections and return the 2004 Constitution.
“I declare that I will initiate early presidential elections. I am also initiating a return to the 2004 Constitution with a redistribution of powers towards a parliamentary republic. I call for the beginning of the procedure for forming the Government of National Trust,” Yanukovych said in a statement.

At the same time, the Ministry of Defense issued a statement disavowing preparations for participation in the operation to disperse the Maidan, which the opposition had previously accused it of.
“The Ministry of Defense has repeatedly emphasized that there were no orders regarding the involvement of personnel for the forceful dispersal of protesters in Kyiv,” the document says.
The Ministry of Defense claims that the military only strengthened the security of facilities in conditions when there were attempts to seize government buildings and arsenals.
