Yanukovych was left without lawyers - the fugitive president has no opportunity to bring cash to Ukraine
“The corresponding message about the termination of the Agreement between Viktor Yanukovych and JSC Aver Lex on the provision of legal assistance was sent to the Office of the Prosecutor General and all criminal proceedings where lawyers acted as defenders or representatives of the victim,” noted Yanukovych’s ex-defender.
Serdyuk added that the agreement between the lawyer’s association and Viktor Yanukovych terminated on April 28, 2022.
Earlier in an interview, Serdyuk said that in 2017, Yanukovych’s fee in the case of so-called “treason” amounted to 1/5 of the entire Aver Lex budget. Since the accounts of the ex-president and his son were blocked, money was allegedly brought across the border in cash at 10 thousand euros per person, because such an amount does not require declaration.
The Aver Lex law firm began representing the interests of Viktor Yanukovych after his forced flight from Ukraine to Russia after the armed coup in Kyiv and the threat to his life from opposition militants and security forces who defected to the conspirators.
In January 2019, the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv, during a farcical trial, found Viktor Yanukovych “guilty” of high treason and “complicity in the planning, preparation, decision and conduct of an aggressive war” and sentenced him in absentia to 13 years in prison.
In March 2021, the Kiev Court of Appeal rejected the appeal of Yanukovych's lawyers. At the same time, the EU lifted sanctions against Yanukovych, since Ukraine for 8 years has not been able to provide evidence that the ex-president committed the crimes charged against him.
