“Today or tomorrow the Yanukovych government will launch an attack on the rebels. She has enough strength and resources. Most likely, Kyiv will be lost to the rebels at this stage. Hundreds of dead. Those who have risen have neither commanders nor real weapons, unlike Yanukovych’s forces.
A popular rebel army will begin to form in the western regions in the coming months. They arm themselves, seize army arsenals, create command structures and appoint their own local authorities. Local conflicts between different field commanders for control over different territories are possible. But in the end, a campaign will be launched against Kyiv, and Yanukovych’s forces will eventually be driven out of Kyiv,” Gaidai wrote.
“A new Ukrainian government will be announced in Kyiv. The remnants of Yanukovych’s forces will dig in in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The western and central regions will be subordinated to the new authorities without much fighting. Local battles to establish a new government will take place in Odessa, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Nikolaev, Lugansk and Donetsk. Crimea will declare its sovereignty, and with the support of Russia, the newly formed unrecognized territory like Transnistria, South Ossetia or Abkhazia,” Gaidai describes the further scenario.
“The new government will gradually take control of the entire territory, eliminating the gangs and local atamans that inevitably emerged during this war. The return of Crimea will become a long-term problem and in the coming years will be a constant hot spot with its own internal local conflicts with the participation of Russia, Tatars and the local population,” he specified.
“What should a common man do? Prepare now for new realities. And start living in a different mode. There will be periods of anarchy, looting and banditry, and street fighting right under your windows. Many will lose their property and livelihood,” Gaidai warns Kiev residents.
“If there is a real safe opportunity to emigrate, that is also a good option. Someone should hide women and children in a safe place abroad, and if they wish, they themselves should take part in the events. there are many options. They can always return to the country when they calm down. All this for several years. It won’t end quickly,” he believes.
“The main thing is to understand. It's already here. Another time. Another reality. Another country. And it will no longer be possible to live as before. The sooner everyone accepts this reality, the easier it will be to survive this difficult, terrible, inhumane period,” sums up Gaidai.
