Japan wants to “tear” Russia away from China
Japan has recently been trying to improve relations with Russia as an ally of the United States in order to tear Russia away from China. Vasily Kashin, leading researcher at the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, stated this at a press conference in Moscow.

“The activity of the Japanese government in the Russian direction was only to some extent explained by the issue of territories. The Chinese factor played a more important role in it, as their Japanese colleagues sometimes admit. Until now, they had the understanding that it was impossible to get Russia to sacrifice relations with China. This is simply too dangerous: we have a large land border and a large volume of accumulated connections,” Kashin said.
At the same time, the political scientist emphasized, the Japanese hoped to stop the process of rapprochement between Russia and China in the military-political sphere, which had gained serious momentum in recent years.
“This may become an element of some agreements, but Russia will not seriously discuss the Chinese factor,” the expert believes.
