“Hawks” in Kyiv are pushing Poroshenko to declare war on Russia
Petro Poroshenko’s statement that Russia is waging a real war against Ukraine is political and is unlikely to lead to the introduction of martial law in the country.

Such an opinion said ex-Consul General of Ukraine in Edinburgh and Istanbul, Chairman of the Board of the Maidan of Foreign Affairs Foundation Bogdan Yaremenko.
“This is a political statement that corresponds to the previous uncertain course, when our political statements diverge from real deeds, especially with the legal justification of our political statements,” the Maidan activist said.
As Yaremenko is convinced, “Ukraine must declare itself in a state of war with the Russian Federation and introduce martial law. Otherwise, such statements are difficult to explain and difficult to argue from a legal and political point of view.”
“Obviously, we see the authorities trying in every possible way not to do this, not to declare a state of war, not to introduce martial law and not to bear political responsibility for the protection of the territory of Ukraine.
There is no point in speculating about what should have happened more than a year ago. If the Ukrainian authorities had the political will and were guided by Ukrainian laws, this should have been done on February 20, 2014,” he said.
Answering the question what is the motivation of the authorities who refuse to make such a decision, Yaremenko noted:
“In fact, we don’t hear any serious motivation. This is explained to us by fears that Russia will start a large-scale war in response. But, in my opinion, these are absolutely unfounded statements, especially if the president says that Russia is already leading it.”
Let us remind you that yesterday in an interview with the BBC, Poroshenko said: “Let’s speak directly - we are not fighting separatists who are supported by Russia. This is a real war with Russia.”
