YouTube, get off the warpath, otherwise it will be bad
YouTube in Russia may be blocked until the end of next week.
A source close to Roskomnadzor reported this to RIA Novosti today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the decision was expected last week, but then Instagram was blocked, which is why the decision on YouTube could have been postponed.
A few hours earlier, Roskomnadzor demanded to stop spreading threats against citizens of the Russian Federation on YouTube.
RKN indicated that the video hosting broadcasts commercials with calls to disable the railway communications of the Russian Federation and Belarus. We are talking about an appeal from the adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine Alexei Arestovich, which is today being distributed as an advertisement.
“The actions of the YouTube administration are terrorist in nature and threaten the life and health of Russian citizens. YouTube has become a platform for information attacks on Russia. Administrations of Internet resources have chosen the path of confrontation, actively participating in the dissemination of misanthropic appeals against citizens of the Russian Federation. Such actions not only violate Russian legislation, but also contradict generally accepted moral standards,” the statement says.
Political scientist Sergei Karnaukhov noted in his Telegram channel that Roskomnadzor has the right and obligation to close YouTube after 23 days of discrimination against peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine.
“Well, either go and kneel in front of the Google office. So that there is a visualization of the position of Russia in front of the libertarians from the United States, in which they are placing our country with their arrogant line of behavior,” Karnaukhov wrote.
After this, a message appeared about a possible blocking.
Russian State Duma Deputy Alexander Khinshtein expressed hopes that a complete blocking of YouTube will not happen.
“After all, first of all, our users will suffer from this. De facto, the decision depends, first of all, on YT itself, or more precisely, on the Google corporation that owns it. What's easier? Restore blocked Russian media channels. Today there are already 37 of them! Remove countless fakes and illegal content, as required by Roskomnadzor. A bad peace is better than a good quarrel. I still naively hope that Google will leave the “warpath” and finally take an adequate, constructive position,” Khinshtein admonishes.
Another deputy Artem Kiryanov is more radical.
“Restrictive measures against Youtube are not what we would like. Neither as deputies and nor as users. This is something that is a forced counteraction not only to political pressure, but also to psychological pressure on each user. Still, it is very important for us to protect people from such information that causes them significant psychological, mental, and actually medical harm. Then psychologists will have to work with these people who have watched several videos,” he said.
