“The South-East must raise its head in parliamentary elections”
The economy of Ukraine can only be boosted by the high-tech development of industry in the South-East.
Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov stated this on the Day TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Without this, according to the politician, the economy of the “agrarian superpower” will stagnate.
“How to increase GDP by 5–10 times? We don’t need to raise it by 5% to catch up with developed countries, but we need to raise it 5–10 times. Can we do it at the expense of grain? We produce 60 million tons, but will we produce 120 million tons? This is unlikely, but let's assume. Will we be able to at least double our GDP? We won't be able to. We can increase our GDP only through the high-tech part, the latest high-tech industry,” said the former prime minister.
He is convinced that for this it is necessary to raise the level of education, science, training of industrial personnel, as well as find markets, which can only be done by those political forces that are interested in this.
“We return to the Southeast. What happened now? Over the course of five years, they cleaned it out - even Zelensky himself gained in the last elections, of the 75% who voted for him, a good half was in the South-East. Is Zelensky now with such approaches of interest to the South-East? No idea. This means that in the parliamentary elections the South-East must raise its head and achieve its proportional representation. If he doesn’t do this, then what we have now will remain. And the same Zelensky will not be able to do anything,” Azarov said.
